How We Help
Young Volunteers
The Fed is particularly proud of our association with local schools and universities from which we recruit some 130 sixth form pupils and students every year who give up their free time to help others. They are a shining example to the community. Amongst these young people are our future communal leaders and this project affords them the opportunity to develop their sense of social responsibility, in a safe, structured and supportive environment with proper training.
We aim to find a rewarding placement for every volunteer. We have a wide range of opportunities which include:
- Working with children by helping out on our play schemes or at Magical Moments or in our Stay and Play Toy Library
- Manning the phones on Caring Sunday to help raise essential funds for The Fed
- Sitting with a cared-for-person to enable a carer to have some time-off from caring.
- Visiting an elderly isolated person for a chat or to play a game
Additionally, all volunteers are offered training in First Aid, British Sign Language and Moving and Handling as well as the chance to be registered to receive the MiIlenium Volunteers Award.
