How We Help
Carers' Support
Being a carer can be both stressful and isolating. The carer often needs support, advice and information and our Time For You Project offers this through a variety of carers' services.
Carers' Support
Our Carers' Advice Workers provide emotional support and practical advice to carers on an individual basis. This includes providing objective advice about handling difficulties relating to the caring situation, giving information about rights, benefits and opportunities for carers or about the disability or illness affecting the person he or she cares for.
Our advice workers carry out carer's assessments which help the carer to identify the help they most need to make the caring situation easier to manage. This might include obtaining a grant to cover the cost of a short break or being referred for volunteer support to provided home-based respite. They can also provide a listening ear when times are particularly difficult and can suggest solutions. They advocate on a carer's behalf, such as in accessing a service quickly in an emergency.
RespiteOur Time For You Project provides carefully matched volunteers who will sit with or take out the person being cared for, enabling the carer to have a much-needed break from their caring responsibilities.
Breaks for Carers Funding
Funded by and administered on behalf of Bury and Salford Local Authorities, we provide one-off grants which enable the carer to take a short break, with or without the person they care for. Grants can cover things like the cost of taking a course or paying for someone to look after the person who is being cared for, while the carer has a night-out or weekend away. We can also assist Manchester Carers in applying directly to their local authority for a grant. We have an additional and very small emergency budget to provide grants in exceptional circumstances.
S.P.A.C.E. Newsletter
Our Carers' S.P.A.C.E. four monthly newsletter is sent to all carers who join our carers' mailing list. It is full of articles and information which keeps carers up-to-date with relevant changes in the law, as well as what's going on locally and nationally for carers. It includes details of FOCUS, our regular programme of activities, events and outings for carers.
Carers' events and outings
Included in our FOCUS programme are special events such as our annual Pampering Day in June during National Carers' Week and Chanukah party. We also arrange occasional day trips to places like Chester and Southport and quick trips e.g. to a shopping centre nearer home.
