How We Help
Carers' Services
A carer looks after a family member or friend who may have a health problem or disability. This role can be isolating and lonely and the carer often needs support, advice and information. Our Time For You Project offers carers a wide range of support.
Individual Support
Our Carers' Advice Workers carry out assessments of carers' needs to identify how best to provide support. They offer one-to-one support in the home, by phone, at The Fed or other suitable venue. They help carers deal with their feelings and anxieties and give practical advice and help provide solutions to the everyday difficulties of caring for someone who is ill or disabled.
Group Support
FOCUS
FOCUS is our regular programme for current carers (and for former carers for a period of 18 months after ceasing to be a carer). The group offers an opportunity to meet up with other carers and to share experience and gain mutual support. Speakers are invited regularly to give advice on specific topics e.g. caring for someone with dementia. The programme also includes regular relaxing activities and outings.
SPACE
SPACE is a monthly self-run social group for carers and former carers.
Respite
Volunteers provide short periods of respite for carers to enable them to have a much needed break from their caring responsibilities.
The Fed provides "Breaks for Carers" grants for carers living in Bury and Salford. It assists Manchester carers in applying for Breaks for Carers grants from their local authority.
Keeping in Touch
Regular newsletters full of useful advice and information about caring and details of the FOCUS programme are available by joining our Carers' Mailing List.
